Is It War? or The Art of Time-Limited, Scope-Limited Military Action by Sun-Tzu.

The general who wins a battle makes many calculations in his temple ere the battle is fought. The general who loses a battle makes but few calculations beforehand. Thus do many calculations lead to victory, and few calculations to defeat: how much more no calculation at all! It is by attention to this point that I can foresee who is likely to win or lose.

"A War is a means to an end, not an end in and of itself" Some military guy riffing off of Sun-Tzu
We have no interest in Libya and should not be there with no defined outcome, and we don't,

  1. At the risk of sounding like a war pig of the power, i can make a list of reasons i would go to war and oil would be top 2. with being out right attacked #1. Let us not forget the Japanese attacked us in WW2 because we were cutting off their oil supply. The world economy revolves around oil. Plasics, refrigerants, most good paints are just a few by products. Dividing oil into these things acually creates energy. everything we do will change without oil, and controlling it will start wars.
